The legendary Sands Family have played a significant part in the creation of the phenomenal world-wide interest in Irish folk and traditional music since the early 1970s.

Now, to promote their first ever DVD, recorded live at their recent 40th anniversary concert, Anne, Ben, Colum and Tommy, are going back on the road for a hectic tour of the North which will take in a stop at Derry’s Millennium Forum on Wednesday, September 5th.

For four decades the Sands family have blended traditional material with their own compositions, some of which have now become Irish music classics in their own right.

Their professionalism and stagecraft have won them fans and friends across Europe and North America, the respect of their fellow musicians and songwriters, as well as numerous cultural and arts awards both at home and abroad.

Fans of all ages from Newtownards to Nova Scotia know that a Sands Family concert is substantially more than just an evening of music and song. Whimsical, humorous and thought-provoking songs are coupled with well-crafted anecdotes and stories and delivered with an apparently effortless ease.

It is a remarkable cultural experience, a chance to enjoy and share in the craic with four superb performers who have the unique ability to make their audiences an integral and important part of every show.

Friend old and new can catch up with the “First Family” of folk music at the Millennium Forum, Derry on Wednesday September 5. To book tickets contact the Forum Box Office on 71264455.
