Irish rockers The Script performed an exclusive set in front of a select Derry audience this morning as the BBC Radio 1 Academy continued into its fourth day.
The band, lead by The Voice judge Danny O’Donoghue, took to the stage at The Nerve Centre to perform a stripped back version of Stay by Rihanna, live on air for the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge.
The rockers then announced they would sing a few of their own songs off air for the audience before taking part in a 30 minute Q&A students with young people who had signed up for the Journalism workshop at the Academy - which is taking place all week at The Nerve Centre.
The Academy is a forerunner to the Radio 1 Big Weekend, which takes place next week from Friday May 24 to Sunday May 26.
The Script will be performing on the main stage on the Sunday - and have promised to play all their hits to local fans.
“No one wants to hear the b-sides,” Danny O’Donoghue told Radio One Presenter Alice Levine. “It will be a case of ‘Don’t bore us, get to the chorus’.”
