A new initiative by Creggan Enterprises, the Unheard Voices Programme, hopes to encourage local women to share experiences of living through the Troubles.
Thanks to £131,799 funding from the International Fund for Ireland through the Peace Impact Programme (PIP), the initiative will run to June 2015 and engage women and women’s groups from Creggan and across the city that have not previously, or only partially, participated in community development and peace building activities. Through weekly sessions, women will be invited to share their stories, promoting dialogue within and between communities through oral history.
Co-ordinator Carol Cunningham says that this innovative, creative venture will help build confidence too. “It will be challenging, however, participants will be encouraged and supported throughout,” she adds.
