One of the world’s finest opera singers is set to perform in Derry at the weekend.

The Dutch soprano, Lenneke Ruiten, will raise the rafters at the Great Hall at the University of Ulster at Magee this Sunday evening when she performs an exclusive set of classics for Derry audiences.

The Walled City Music Festival has brought the world famous soprano and pianist Thom Janssen to the city as part of their concert series for 2012.

Festival Director, Culmore Road man Cathal Breslin, said Lenneke’s concert is a real coup for them.

“We are delighted that Lenneke is coming to perform in the city,” he said.

“She has captivated audiences with her beautiful voice in venues from Vienna to Paris. And Thom Janssen, who will play piano along side her, is a world class name. We are very lucky to have them both here in the stunning setting of the Great Hall at Magee. It will be a fantastic night.”

Lenneke, who has been singing opera since she was a teenager, studied at the prestigious Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. She has won countless prizes for her talents and has graced the stage principal roles in major operatic productions across the world.

She recently performed with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, performing Mozart’s ‘Exsultate, Jubilate’ to vast audiences in Dublin.

The concert will take place at 7pm on Sunday, March 11th in the Great Hall at the University of Ulster at Magee.

Tickets for the concert, costing £8 and £5 concessions, are available from the Millennium Forum box office.
