Ireland’s best comedians will descend on the city over Easter weekend as part of the Feile Laughs Comedy Festival which takes place in Derry from 29 March to 1 April 2013.
Tim McGarry, Kevin McAleer, Micky Bartlett (BBC’s Monumental) and Colin Geddis (I Am Fighter) are some of the names taking part in this brand new event as part of the Gasyard Wall Feile’s cultural programme for 2013 in partnership with Culture Company 2013 Ltd.
Speaking at the launch of the programme, event promoter Eavan King said: “We have a fantastic programme of comedy for Easter weekend. From comedy legends Tim McGarry and Kevin McAleer, to rising stars Micky Bartlett -who now features in BBC NI’s Monumental and The Blame Game as well as youtube sensation Colin Geddis with I Am Fighter’s Barry the Blender Henderson, there’s something here for everyone.
Complimenting our special guests, a range of local comedians from Derry, Belfast and beyond form our free comedy trail in the Bogside, Brandywell and Creggan areas as well as a fantastic Mad Hatters Tea Party for children in the Gasyard Centre”
The comedy festival is a new venture for the well established Gasyard Wall Feile which works closely with the local community in Derry to offer a wide range of arts and cultural activities on a year round basis.
Speaking at the programme launch, Feile Coordinator Ami McBride said: “This year Féile will be taking a different direction to previous years, we will be holding events all year long and this comedy festival is a great way to start it off.
Eavan King, the event coordinator, is well known on the comedy circuit and organising these events is playing to her strengths.”
The festival begins on Friday 29 March at 12pm with a family fun day themed on The Mad Hatters Tea Party at the Gasyard Centre. Later on in the evening the Feile Laughs Comedy Open Mic night is hosted by BBC Monumental star Micky Bartlett.
A free Comedy Trail is an essential part of Feile Laughs weekend providing quality comedy from local and regional acts in a variety of venues in the Bogside, Brandywell and Creggan areas of the city. Featured acts include Ruadhri Ward, Paddy McDonnell, Peter E Davidson, Terry Keyes, Bobby Best, Adam Laughlin, Ray McCrossan and many more.
Headlining this years Feile Laughs Comedy Festival is none other than Ireland’s own Tim McGarry who take to the stage at the Gasyard Centre on Easter Saturday 30 March at 8.30pm.
Easter Sunday sees Colin Geddis, the man responsible for Barry the Blender Henderson from youtube sensation I Am Fighter take to the stage. Catch the man behind the legendary Barry the Blender with MC Ruadhri Ward taking care of proceedings on the night.
