Forum up for top UK award

The Millennium Forum has been shortlisted for a prestigious industry award – My Theatre Matters! UK’s Most Welcoming Theatre Award.

The cityside venue is the only theatre in the North West to be shortlisted for this award and will battle it out for the public vote against Belfast’s Grand Opera House and The Lyric Theatre for the Northern Ireland regional vote.

General Manager, Paul Mason, hopes that local people will lend their support.

He said: “This is a unique opportunity for the Forum to be recognised nationally for such a significant award. The Millennium Forum plays an important role at the heart of our local community and we hope that the public will get behind us to support us by giving us their vote.

“This is everyone’s chance to shout about how much they value the work of their local theatre!”

Over 225 arts venues are asking the public to vote for them in the inaugural My Theatre Matters! Most Welcoming Theatre Award in association with Classic FM, which will be announced at the annual UK Theatre Awards ceremony in London’s historic Guildhall on Sunday 20 October 2013.

My Theatre Matters! gives local audiences a chance to voice their support for their local venue and encourage politicians to do the same. It features a website – www.mytheatrematters.com – where audiences can sign up and download information about how to lobby local politicians.
