The extraordinary wit, perception and innovation of Oscar Wilde will be staged in the elegant settings of The Beech Hill Hotel tomorrow evening (Saturday, November 2).

Parisian Theatre Company Dear Conjunction and The Playhouse and have teamed up to present ‘More Lives Than One’, an exceptional dramatic portrait of the much loved playwright and poet.

Dear Conjunction, which was founded in Paris in 1991 under the patronage of Harold Pinter, will present the play as one of two specially staged productions with The Playhouse for UK City of Culture.

‘More Lives Than One’ will bring the critical events in the life of Oscar Wilde to life at The Beech Hill Hotel on Saturday November 2.

Performed by writer Les Clack and directed by Patricia Kessler, ‘More Lives Than One’ was described as “an exceptional piece of work...genuinely highly comedic and deeply tragic” by Edinburgh Review.

Les Clack and Patricia Kessler are co-founders of Dear Conjunction Theatre Company, along with renowned critic and translator, and long-term confidante of Samuel Beckett, Barbara Bray.

The play is latest partnership piece between The Playhouse and Dear Conjunction, and will be presented alongside the first ever Northern Irish performance of Helen Edmusdson’s ‘The Clearing’ from Tuesday 12 to Saturday 16 November. ‘The Clearing’ is set during the years of the Irish transplantation and the era of Cromwell. All Irish and English settlers who had fought against the Commonwealth were to be dispossessed of their land and banished, on pain of execution, to inhospitable and famine-stricken Connaught.

“Dear Conjunction Theatre Company has been bringing Parisian audiences the best in bilingual theatre since 1991” Playhouse Theatre Producer Kieran Griffiths said.

“During that time they have produced over 30 plays from Harold Pinter to Mike Leigh to Yasmina Reza. The Playhouse has been honoured to be part of several of these wonderful productions down the years” Áine McCarron at The Playhouse said.

“Its especially exciting to have such an esteemed international company work with us on two such mesmerizing and evocative pieces.”

‘More Lives Than One’ will come to The Beech Hill Hotel on Saturday 2 November at 7.30pm and ‘The Clearing’ will run at The Playhouse from Tuesday 12 to Saturday 16 November. To book contact The Playhouse on (028)71 268027 or www.derryplayhouse.co.uk.
