It doesn’t go on general release until next year but already ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ has sold out at Derry’s Brunswick Moviebowl.

The film is a movie adaptation of E.L. James’ novel of the same name and will be released on Valentine’s Day 2015.

“Tickets went on sale here at Brunswick Moviebowl on the November 14 to coincide with the global release of the new ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ trailer and to date in excess of 600 tickets have been sold for the opening weekend with two shows on the opening night, Friday February 13, completely sold out,” said Brunswick Moviebowl Operations Manager, Caoimhin McClafferty.

“Universal Pictures, distributors for ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’, confirmed to us via an email on Monday afternoon that Brunswick Moviebowl is currently out in front again this week as the number one site on the island of Ireland for pre-sales for ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’.

Despite two sell out shows on the opening night and in excess of 600 tickets sold to date, Caoimhin, wanted to reassure fans that loads more shows will be going on sale in the coming days and tickets can be bought online, in store or over the telephone.

“Our experience of ticket sales so far has been that most customers are buying tickets in multiples of six or more whereby groups of friends/relatives (mostly ladies) are availing of our Movie Meal Deal and booking in for dinner and the movie with cocktails pre and post movie,” he added.

Some book critics said the literary qualities of the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ novel leave a lot to be desired but despite that the book went on to become a worldwide bestseller.

The series of books has sold over 100 million copies across the world and has been translated into 52 different languages.

‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ was published in 2011 and the author E.L. James followed up with two further novels called ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ and ‘Fifty Shades Freed’.

The books is categorised as erotic fiction and the film stars Belfast born actor, Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele.
