Hordes of teenage girls descended on Brunswick Moviebowl yesterday as the movie offering from the biggest boyband of the decade, One Direction, hit the big screens.
One Direction - This is Us drew crowds from inside and outside the city as the local cinema had to up their schedule to cope with demand.
Twelve screenings were scheduled yesterday for the film - four of which were sold out out by early morning - with only a handful of seats left for the remaining sittings.
Operations Manager Caoimhim McClafferty said that while big blockbusters such as The Avengers, Return of the Dark Knight attracted similar crowds, these screenings were different.
“One Direction have a core group of supporters - Directioners - he said. They are turning up here today dressed up in One Direction merchandise.”
The movie, which will allow fans to see their idols in 3D, is expected to sell out over the weekend. But as of yesterday, no fans had yet fainted with excitement. “We’re prepared for whatever happens,” Caoimhin laughed.
