Moville lad, Art Parkinson, turned up at the Derry Omniplex on Friday for a special screening of his film, ‘San Andreas’.
Art is 13 years-old but already he has starred in well known films such as ‘Shooting for Socrates’, ‘Dracula Untold’ and HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’.
Speaking to the ‘Journal’ before the screening of the film on Friday evening, Art said it was a dream come true starring in a film alongside his childhood hero Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
“Growing up in Moville my brothers and I would have rushed from school to watch ‘The Rock’ wrestling on WWE so when I received the news that I had been cast in the same film as him I was absolutely thrilled,” he said.
‘San Andreas’ is a Hollywood disaster movie about what might happen to the West coast of America should the San Andreas fault cause the world’s most severe earthquake.
Art plays English youngster Ollie in ‘San Andreas’. Ollie is in San Francisco along with brother Ben (Hugo Johnstone-Burt) when the earthquakes strike and along with the on screen daughter of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson they must do whatever it takes to survive.
The film stars Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as Chief Ray Gaines, a helicopter rescue pilot, who uses his skills to save his family when the earthquakes strike San Francisco. Also starring in the film is Oscar nominated actor Paul Giamatti (‘Cinderella Man’ and ‘Sideways’).
“It’s amazing to be at the Derry Omniplex tonight - it’s my favourite cinema. My parents own a little cafe across the street, it’s called ‘The Coffee Tree’ and my friends and I love coming into Derry, having a tea or coffee in my parents’ cafe and then coming here to watch movies.
“I saw the film for the first time at the premiere in Leicester Square last week but for me nothing compares to watching this film in Derry on the Strand Road. It’s definitely much more relaxed tonight.”
When Art’s first scene in the movie appeared on the big screen on Friday everyone inside the MAXX cinema cheered and once the film was over the audience applauded to show their appreciation.
Art is due to star in animated film ‘Kubo and the two strings’ alongside Oscar winners Matthew McConaughey (‘Dallas Buyers Club’) and Charlize Theron (‘Monster’). It will be released in 2016.
