30mph signs on Groarty Road increase safety
“It is always very busy at the best of times; a lot of motorists use this road as a shortcut and it was clear the speed limit was far too high,” said the Foyleside Councillor.
Councillor McGinley said the local party lobbied the Sinn Féin Roads Minister Chris Hazzard before the schools broke up for the holidays.

“We spoke directly with the Minister, Chris Hazzard, just prior to the summer holidays and raised all those concerns with him.
“He announced at the start of September that there was to be a reduction of the speed limit on the road,” said Councillor McGinley.
Parents had complained that the Groarty Road was so narrow that barely two cars could pass, yet some motorists were speeding past at 60 miles per hour.

The local Sinn Féin representative praised those who had campaigned in the cause of greater road safety.
“It’s important to commend everyone who has campaigned for safety measures on this road over the years.”
