Sex offender flew to Faro; didn't say

A Greysteel sex offender who flew to the Algarve without informing the PSNI, escaped jail when he appeared at Derry Magistrates' Court.

Gareth Moore (38), of Hawthorn Park, appeared to be sentenced for a series of breaches of the Sexual Offences Act.

District Judge Neil Rafferty, dealing with the case, which had been adjourned from March 31, told the defendant: “Be in no doubt, if you had appeared before me, I would have sent you to prison.”

Moore was given a six months suspended sentence.
