It’s one of the most anticipated interviews for quite some time – and ITV is showing Oprah with Meghan and Harry just a day after it airs in the US.

As Kevin Lygo, ITV Managing Director Media & Entertainment, says: “This interview is already a national talking point and ITV is pleased to be able to offer UK audiences the opportunity to see it.”

Whether they like it or not, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have a lot of experience of being the talk of the nation.

Before the pandemic knocked them out of the headlines, they dominated the news in January 2020 when they announced that they were stepping back from their duties as senior royals.

At that point the couple, who tied the knot in 2018, had already talked about how they were struggling with the intense media scrutiny surrounding them. Speaking in the ITV documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey in October 2019, Meghan admitted that some of her friends had warned her that marrying a prince was no guarantee of living happily ever after.

She said: “When I first met my now-husband my friends were really happy because I was so happy.

“But my British friends said to me, ‘I’m sure he’s great but you shouldn’t do it because the British tabloids will destroy your life’.”

In the same programme, Harry spoke about his fears that his wife would face the same pressures as his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.

He said: “I will always protect my family, and now I have a family to protect.

“So everything that she [Diana] went through, and what happened to her, is incredibly important every single day, and that is not me being paranoid, that is just me not wanting a repeat of the past.”

Despite that, it still came as a shock that the couple were planning to step back from many of their royal duties and begin a new life with their son Archie in the US.

However, interest in them remains high, especially in the wake of the announcement that they are expecting a second child.

So, there has been a lot of speculation about this interview, which finds Winfrey, who was a guest at the couple’s wedding, speaking to Meghan about everything from stepping into life as a royal, marriage, motherhood and philanthropic work to how she is handling the intense public pressure.

The pair will later be joined by Prince Harry to speak about their move to the United States and their future hopes and dreams for their expanding family.

It remains to be seen what the reaction to the interview will be – in some quarters, it has already been criticised over the timing, with some pundits claiming it is insensitive when Prince Philip is in hospital – but perhaps it could lead to viewers seeing the Duke and Duchess in a new light.

I guess it’s just a case of watch, wait and see what happens next!
