Derry builder Moore Construction (NI) ltd. lodges application to build 89 homes in Upper Galliagh

A fresh application has been lodged for a new housing development on the northernmost fringes of Derry.

Moore Construction (NI) Ltd. has applied for permission to build 89 dwellings on former agricultural land zoned at the corner of the Upper Galliagh Road and the Beragh Hill Road opposite Glenabbey Cottages. The site is zoned as H1B Upper Galliagh in the Derry Area Plan 2011.

A Design Statement submitted by WYG Planning on behalf of the application states: “The proposed development provides a residential scheme in keeping with, and respectful of, the existing local context, whilst creating an attractive, healthy and sustainable approach to the development of these lands and, when assessed against relevant planning policy, guidance, advice and all other material considerations, it is evident that this full planning application is acceptable. Considering the above, it is respectfully requested that positive consideration be afforded to this proposed development and full planning permission be granted.”

The site is over nine acres and will include 74 semi-detached and 15 detached dwellings. A planning supporting statement, also prepared by WYG, explains the plot is part of a wide range of farmland in that area set aside for housing.

“These are surrounded by further agricultural fields which are also within the H1B zoning and included in the Concept Master Plan for lands between Upper Galliagh Road, Beragh Hill Road, and Skeoge Road. The existing landform and topography is respected which assists in ensuring that there will be no overlooking, overshadowing or loss of privacy to adjacent residential properties as a result of the development,” it states.
