She said: “We would like to invite all parents of preschool children for September 2023 to come along and view the facilities at Naíscoil Cholmcille, meet the staff and ask any questions they may have about sending their child to our Naíscoil and being educated through the medium of Irish.”

Pola brings more than 30 years’ experience to the Naíscoil and has a wealth of knowledge and understanding to share with families.

“There are huge benefits to a child who is educated through Irish. They will develop advanced thinking skills and achieve higher levels in literacy and numeracy than their mono lingual peers including English. They will learn additional languages better and will be more open to other cultures.

“All the evidence and experience clearly shows that choosing bilingual education is a very positive step for the child, the family and the community they come from so we would urge parents to consider Irish medium education for their child, even if they don’t have Irish themselves. In fact, that is the case for the vast majority of parents of children who attend IME schools so it isn’t a barrier to ensuring these children get the very best of starts in their education.”

Parents of preschool children will have to apply online to the Education Authority for a preschool place to start in September 2023. The online registration opens on January 10, 2023 and closes on January 27, 2023.

Póla added: “Before making a decision on where to send your children for their preschool education, we would encourage all parents to come along to Naíscoil Cholmcille on Wednesday, November 30 at 1pm or 7pm to experience at first hand the excellent facilities that will be available to their child as they start out on their educational journey.”
