Members of the public are invited to attend a series of upcoming events to learn more about and discuss a diverse series of topics relating to mental health, such as the need for detoxification services and active suicide prevention. These discussions will be an exciting opportunity for citizens of Derry/ Londonderry to get involved in democracy and discuss the changes they would like to see in their community.

The events will be held online between 6pm and 9pm on Thursday 20th January and Thursday 27th January.

The Project Coordinator, Sophia Devlin, said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to deliver real change within the city of Derry/Londonderry. Adverse mental health is an issue that can impact people at any stage of life, and we recognise the importance of addressing the ongoing mental health crisis. To facilitate this, we will be utilising deliberative democracy, which relies heavily on discussion and public participation; hence the most important part of this process involves consulting the public to achieve the desired results.

“During these upcoming events, we will be welcoming representatives from organisations such as ‘HURT: Have Your Tomorrows’, ‘Foyle Search and Rescue’, and ‘Extern’ to discuss topics such as comprehensive addiction services, crisis intervention, and counselling services, amongst others.

“We look forward to hearing what the citizens of this city have to say, and look forward to welcoming anyone who is interested in attending. We greatly anticipate actioning the outcomes of these events and are excited at the prospect of using democracy to deliver change in the North West.”

Please note that this event will be free to attend. If you are interested in attending any of these events, you must be willing to engage with potentially sensitive topics and contribute to discussions. You also must be aged 18 or over and resident either in, or in relative proximity to, Derry/Londonderry to participate.
