Creative learning event for older people at the Playhouse
One of the world's leading advocates for creative and positive ageing is coming to Derry's Playhouse Theatre for an interactive Creative Ageing Symposium in May.
Dominic Campbell is the co-founder and Artistic Director of Creative Ageing International.
As part of a visiting Fellowship to the North of Ireland through Ulster University and Queen’s University, Dominic will be the key figure in the Symposium at The Playhouse on Friday May 13.
The event will begin at 11a.m. in conversation with Dominic and conclude with a round table networking afternoon. Individuals working in or interested in creative and positive provision for the elderly can address specific issues and meet in a friendly social setting to work towards a better understanding of creative ageing.
“This event will be a chance for anyone involved or interested in inspired provision for the older generation to get together and share good practice, exchange ideas, and network,” said Liam Campbell, community relations officer at The Playhouse.
“From 2006 to 2013 Dominic led ‘Bealtaine Festival’ a groundbreaking celebration of creativity in older age transforming it into one of Ireland’s most significant annual events.
“Dominic has been a member of the Department of Justice and Arts Council of Ireland exploration of ‘Cultural Diversity and The Arts’ advisory group and was a cultural representative on the National Economic and Social Forum ‘Futures Ireland’ initiative.
“He has also curated The Theatre of War Symposium at the Abbey Theatre Dublin and completed a commission from the Royal Society of Arts exploring engaged creative practice and public service provision in rural UK,” added Liam.
The Creative Ageing Symposium will be held at The Playhouse on Friday May 13 from 11a.m. to 3p.m. (lunch will be provided). All are welcome to this free event! Do you want to show off your creative culinary skills? Feel free to bring some baking to share!
