And the new cream filled snowball and iced cream finger are proving quite the hit as well as a real talking point.

In fact, not since somebody poured chocolate over a gravy ring and put apple in a turnover has there been such a stir amongst those on the bun run.

Bakeries across the north west are well known for their prowess in producing first class buns, a staple in any self respecting Derry, Donegal and Tyrone family’s diet.

Have you come across these on the bun run?Have you come across these on the bun run?

The cream finger and the snowball are among the perennial favourites across the north west along with the aforementioned turnover and gravy ring along with apple squares, sugar studded German buns (nothing to do with Paris), coconut finger, cream horn, treacle scone, raisin scone, pancake and the humble but mighty floury bap.

We might as well add in wheatens, soda bread and potato bread among the list of local staples while we are at it.

There’s a whole plethora of fancy fondant ones too and a number of local bakeries have previously put their spin on some the classics. A recent development saw giant versions being created and served up at birthday parties and even weddings.

Daniel Doherty’s bakery have said they are delighted that their take on the classics are going down a treat.
