Flooding health hazard discussed

It has been claimed that recurrent flooding and possible heath hazards have resulted since the demolition of two blocks of shops and flats in Central Drive, Creggan.

Residents have said gullies have been blocked by debris and water continued to flow into the streets after supplies should have been disconnected. Residents in the Central Drive area have claimed that their area has been affected by intermittent flooding and sewer leaks ever since. However, major steps to solve the problem were taken by Roads Service, the Water Service, and the Housing Executive. Water had been flowing from a burst pipe and gathering at Central Drive because of blocked gullies.

Local people said their refuse collectors and coal delivery men had to enter their homes by their front doors to get access to their back yards due to flooding behind the houses. Residents also claimed that a considerable health hazard had been created by the water.
