The Red Dutchess takes off the mask in Derry

Would you stop and help someone who was having a panic attack?

Derry lifestyle blogger and mental health advocate The Red Dutchess has launched a new documentary for World Mental Health Day to answer that question.

In the documentary, Caroline McMenamin aka the Red Dutchess, explores the level of awareness of mental health within the city of Derry.

Caroline collaborates with young people and bloggers to discover some home truths around their own mental health.

The documentary is a social experiment at Guildhall Square which sees locals help a young female deal with a panic attack.

The young female is helped by members of the public and when they are told they are part of the social experiment, Caroline stops to talk to them and ask them how they felt when they saw the young girl in trouble.

The Red Dutchess acknowledges that it takes a lot of bravery to stop and help someone who is taking a panic attack.

The aim of the documentary is to draw attention to the youth mental health movement as speaking up and taking action become the norm.

The Red Dutchess is the alias of local blogger and mental health advocate Caroline McMenamin, who shares her personal stories with the aim to remove the stigma surrounding mental health.

Diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder when she was 21, Caroline began the #faceOCD campaign online in a bid to raise awareness of the condition.

With a growing audience on her Facebook, YouTube, Snapchat and Twitter social media platforms, Caroline conducts live mental health videos on her Facebook page every Monday.
