Join Derry author Brian on a ‘Novel Journey’ from the comfort of your seat

The new online venture, called ‘Novel Journeys’, aims to celebrate the benefits of reading.

In partnership with independent bookstore ‘No Alibis’, Translink will recommend a title every month via social media, with a virtual event held every three months featuring guest panellists.

The book club officially launched this week with the announcement of crime fiction author from Derry, Brian McGilloway, as the first guest panellist who will take part in the virtual event in June.

The first recommended book was revealed as ‘Night Train to Lisbon’ by Swiss writer Pascal Mercier.

Speaking about the new initiative, Chris Conway, Chief Executive, Translink, said: “We’ve always championed the idea of ‘getting time back’ by doing something enjoyable on your journey or daily commute, like reading.

“And, with more people turning to a good read to switch-off, escape and look after their mental wellbeing during lockdown, our Novel Journeys Book Club will help us stay connected with passengers and the wider public.

“It will also be something relaxing to be part of when restrictions ease and more people can travel by bus and train again. We’re looking forward to showcasing a range of titles and authors over coming months and holding some great discussions with our new book club members.”
