Social Development Minister Mervyn Storey MLA has cut the first sod at a new £2.2 million social housing scheme at Hass Road in Dungiven due to be complete in October 2016.
The new development, funded by Department for Social Development and Apex Housing, will provide 19 new family houses and apartments - 10 two-bedroom family houses, five three-bedroom family houses, two one-bedroom family apartments and two wheelchair designed bungalows, each with six bedrooms for applicants with complex housing needs.
The scheme is being built on former Housing Executive land adjacent to Ard na Smoll estate with construction work completed by the Kevin Watson Group. Minister Storey said it is a “very welcome addition” to social housing, adding: “These new homes are being built to an exceptionally high standard and will include solar roof panels to help reduce energy costs.
Martin Doherty, Chairman of Apex Housing said the homes will help families who may be living in difficult circumstances and create employment opportunities for the construction sector.
