A Limavady man who was disorderly has been described as “a complete Jekyll and Hyde character” in court.
Michael Patrick Laurence McLaughlin, whose address was given as Edenvale Park in Limavady, was sentenced at Limavady Magistrate’s Court where he was bound over to keep the peace for two years.
The court heard on June 21 at 2.25am police were on Catherine Street in Limavady when there was a scuffle outside a local hostelry. Police attempted to break the pair up.
The other party went back inside and so did 24-year-old McLaughlin. The other party then came back outside and so did McLaughlin, who began swinging punches, and shouted: “I’ll f***ing hit him”.
McLaughlin was arrested and taken home.
Defence solicitor Peter Jack said McLaughlin was “a complete Jekyll and Hyde character” and, on the night in question, had far too much -at least 10 pints - to drink. Mr Jack said McLaughlin regretted his court appearance .
District Judge Liam McNally said he woud regard the matter as “a one-off” type of behaviour and noted McLaughlin’s plea of guilty and also that there was nothing of that nature on his record.
