Gibbons had been refused bail on a charge of causing actual bodily harm to a female in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The court heard that police were called by a taxi man who reported that a male and female were arguing in his car, that the female passenger had sustained facial injuries and he believed the male passenger was responsible.

A police officer told the court that the injured party told police her partner had become argumentative after drinking earlier in the Drummond Hotel. When the taxi man pulled his car over to warn her partner about his behaviour, she had stepped out of the car.

It was then, she said, Gibbons had punched her twice in the face, breaking her nose.

Gibbons stated that he had not hit her and that she had been inebriated and had “face planted” outside the car causing her own injuries.

He was remanded in custody until April 18.
