The north’s leading charity for people living with hearing loss is looking for volunteers to help launch a new initiative aimed specifically at young people in the north west.
Action On Hearing Loss NI (formerly RNID) supports around 300,000 people in Northern Ireland who people who are deaf, have a hearing loss or tinnitus.
They provide both day to day care and communication services and training as well as practical hearing advice and supporting research into deafness.
Now they hope to expand the Deaf Awareness for Young people (DAY) project - already in place in Belfast - across Derry, Tyrone and Fermanagh.
The project sees a group of trained volunteers to attend local school or youth groups and deliver a detailed lesson plan which will engage and inform children and young people.
The charity is now hoping volunteers will come forward to get involved with the project and say it is an ideal opportunity for part-time, unemployed or retired teachers, sports coaches or anyone with anyone with an interest in working with children.
