Ballykelly singing sensation Aine Hassan didn’t make it through to the next stage of the All Ireland Talent Show at the weekend but, if the praise lavished on her by the judges is anything to go by, the teenager has a bright future ahead of her.

The 15 year-old, picked by superstar Dana to represent the North on the RTE show, dazzled the judges with her version of ‘A Wonderful World’. After her performance she was described as much a “unique talent” as had ever been seen on the show before while another of the judges said she was like a young Christina Aguilera performing on the show before she hit the big time.

The sweet soul singer was in the running for a wild card, but unfortunately lost out to Shane Doolan from the South. However, in her typical easy going manner, Aine was over the moon at having performed live on the show, which played a short film showing Aine’s home village of Ballykelly and members of her family and her grandfather’s fish and chip shop, Tommy’s.

“I wasn’t really nervous, just more excited than anything,” the bubbly teen told the ‘Journal’ on her way back from Dublin yesterday. “The crew were all so nice and it was great to see everyone from school in the audience. When I heard the judges comments, the ones about Christina Aguilera I was like ‘Whoo!” It was really good.”

Aine said she is just so grateful at all the support at home and in the audience.

“I’m just going to keep on singing and see what comes along. Whatever comes up I’ll do it. I just want to say thank you to everyone for all the support,” said the St. Mary’s, Limavady student.

Proud mum Gina, who was backstage with her daughter said: “I’m really proud of her. It takes a lot of guts to get up there and do that. We’re very proud of her.”

School principal Celine McKenna: “We were so disappointed because she had performed outstandingly well. The manner in which she responded was very typical of Aine’s modesty and dignity. We have no doubt she will have many opportunities to shine beyond this. This may seem like a setback, but it will not put Aine Hassan down.”
