With water meter installation due to commence in the peninsula in the very near future, a brand new website has been set up by an Inishowen-wide group resisting water charges and the installation of water meters. Inishowen Against Water Charges set up its lively Facebook group in September 2014.
The page has now attracted more than 2,200 members from all over Inishowen and from all walks of life. The group interacts with other groups around Inishowen, Donegal and hundreds of other similar groups that have sprung up all over Ireland in opposition to the water charges. Members share information, news and discussion about Irish Water, water charges, meter installations and related issues.
Now they have announced they are extending their online presence with a comprehensive new website at www.inishowenawc.org. The website will carry information about the anti-water charges movement, tips and pointers and the latest media news.
A spokesperson for the group told the ‘Journal’ how the people of Inishowen and Donegal “are well known for their spirit of resistance.”
“The two recent Right2Water anti-water charges marches in Letterkenny were the largest outside the capital city,” they added.
“Members of the group have also travelled to Dublin to take part in the large anti-water charge demonstrations in the capital. Three Inishowen coach loads were among the many hundreds travelling from Donegal by car, by bus and by coach last December 10th and the next big Right2Water protest in Dublin is scheduled for 21st March. Coaches are again being organised from the peninsula.”
There will also be a public meeting held by the Buncrana Against Irish Water Group at the Lake of Shadows Hotel Buncrana this Thursday, 19th February at 8 pm. to discuss the way forward and hear guest speakers from Drogheda who fought a successful campaign against meter installation with Irish Water and the Gardai. Everyone is very welcome to attend.
