From the archive: Brian Coll of the Plattermen plays concert of the season at Burt - December 1967

The concert of the season in Burt Hall takes place on Monday night next.

The talent-packed programme has as guest artist, Brian Coll of the Plattermen.

Brian makes a habit of coming up with records, which always reach the charts, such as “Kathleen, I’m in Love Again,” “Ireland Swings,” “I’ll Never Take You Back Again,” and his latest, “Life Turned Her That Way” and “Mary Claire, Melrina, Rebecca Jane” look set for a top chart position.

The other local and visiting artistes include Bill Quinn (by special request) and Frank Breslin, a favourite at Burt Hall, the ever popular concert venue.

Snowfall led to water shortage

A stoppage in Buncrana’s water supply during the recent snowfall was due to debris blocking the screens at Doo Lough, the Town Surveyor, Mr. W. Doherty, told the Urban Council.

The Chairman, Mr. A.C. Bateman, said that the emergency storage capacity of 300,000 gallons of water was entirely inadequate, but this was not the fault of the Urban Council as it had been a Departmental decision.

Mr. Doherty pointed out that water leakage in the town had increased by 48,000 gallons a day because of bursts in pipes.

Some of the bursts had been located and rectified.

Donegal Techs. will get deputies

Donegal Vocational Education Committee decided to rescind a decision to adjourn for six months the appointments of deputy headmasters in vocational schools throughout the county.

A proposal to rescind the motion was proposed by Mr. P. O’Donnell, U.D.C., Letterkenny, who was unavoidably absent from the meeting at which the decision was taken.

Mr. O’Donnell said he could not understand the attitude of the committee in adjourning these appointments for six months.

The schools had now become so large he felt deputy headmasters were an asbolute necessity.
