People with long-term health conditions were recently given an opportunity to talk directly to MLAs at Stormont regarding their treatment and care.

They were joined by carers and family to raise awareness of conditions such as chronic pain, rare diseases, fibromyalgia, ME, endometriosis and recurrent miscarriage.

During the meeting, MLAs learned how the service users had worked alongside Health and Social Care Trusts and the Department of Health to bring about recognition of, and better medical care for, certain conditions.

The event also marked the launch of a report titled The People’s Voice, which was produced by the Patient and Client Council to illustrate how these partnerships can drive service change and improvement in Northern Ireland’s health and social care services.

The Patient and Client Council was set up by the Department of Health in 2009 to listen to service users and represent their views to Northern Ireland’s healthcare policy and decision-makers.
