Chairperson of the Dungiven and Feeny Local Committee of Cancer Research UK, Anne Marie O’Hagan, said: “It’s all systems go with ‘The Great Glenshane Lorry Pull’ which is back with a vengeance.

“This year we are back on the original trail, from Dungiven to The Ponderosa, the highest pub in Ireland. We are delighted to say that now we can really keep our fundraising efforts local as all money raised is going directly to the new cancer centre at Altnagelvin,”

It was at a recent conference that volunteers heard from Dr Allan Jordan, Head of Chemistry at the CRUK Manchester Institute, Drug Discovery Unit, and the work he is currently doing to beat cancer.

“At the end of his talk, Dr. Jordan threw down a challenge to all the groups attending. He gave each committee a £2 coin and asked all to go away and see how much they could turn this coin into by the end of December. Dungiven and Feeny local committee have taken on the challenge and using Cancer Research UK’s slogan of the moment Right Now’ and we are actively planning to run The Great Glenshane Lorry Pull.”

Once again, they are following the original trail from Dungiven up to the Ponderosa, the highest pub in Ireland, a distance of eight and a half miles.

Mrs O’Hagan said all funds raised will go towards the new Health and Wellbeing Campus at Altnagelvin which opens in October.
