Ilex, the urban regeneration company for Derry, together with Derry City Council, has helped transform Ballyarnet Country Park to create new events spaces.
The park, which will be the location of choice for the Earhart Festival which takes place this weekend, was officially opened by Ilex and Derry City Council earlier this week.
The rich cultural and historic park now includes a range of vibrant outdoor public spaces and is better equipped to play host to community events in line with the City of Culture programme this year and in the future.
Ilex contributed £233,000 to the project through the Department for Social Development’s City of Culture Capital Infrastructure Fund. Derry City Council also awarded £100,000 to complete works and was responsible for the management of the project.
Ilex’s Cultural Broker Caoimhin Corrigan said: “These fantastic new public spaces will be ideal locations for cultural and community festivals, giving people greater opportunities to engage and participate in local events.”
