BBC Radio Foyle was awarded Gold Local Station of the Year at the PPI (Phonographic Performance Ireland) Radio Awards 2015, which took place on Friday night [October 9].
It is the second time in three years that BBC Radio Foyle has been named Local Station Of The Year by PPI, also winning the title in 2013.
The station won two Gold awards and one Silver award at the ceremony, which took place at the Radisson Blu hotel in Galway. Larry Deeney, Editor BBC Radio Foyle, said: “It is an incredible achievement for BBC Radio Foyle to be crowned best local station twice in the last three years. We are lucky to be part of the most amazing community here in the north west and I am lucky to go into the office every day to a team of the most hard working, creative, and funniest people that you could meet. On their behalf, I’d like to thank all our listeners. I would also like to congratulate Stephen McCauley for the recognition that he has received for his immense dedication and talent. It is a privilege to work with him and the rest of my colleagues at BBC Radio Foyle.”
Also at the ceremony, an official plaque honouring the late Gerry Anderson was collected by his friend, the presenter Colum Arbuckle. Gerry was inducted into PPI Radio Awards Hall of Fame last month. Colum, himself, won Silver on the night for his BBC Radio Ulster programme, Time of Our Lives.
