Derry City and Strabane District Council are to enter into a licence agreement with the famous Ring boxing club in Rosemount in order to facilitate its move into brand new bespoke facilities in the Brooke Park Sports Centre in December.

The Council’s Health and Community Committee approved the move for the club, which is associated with Derry boxing legends, Charlie Nash and John Duddy, on Thursday.

Sinn Féin Councillor Kevin Campbell said: “This is good news. Ring have been at Brooke Park since the 1970s. I remember visiting the club seven or eight years ago and the rain was literally leaking through the roof so this is good news for sport in the city.”
