Inishowen’s garda crime prevention officer is warning people throughout of the peninsula to beware of thieves ready to strike this Christmas.
Sergeant Paul Wallace is hoping people will be able to prevent thieves and criminal ruining their Christmas holidays.
“People need to remember thieves don’t take holidays,” explained Sgt. Wallace. “Nowadays people can afford to lose nothing, there are a number of tips which can prevent crime occurring in the first place.
“Keep a sharp eye on strange vehicles in the vicinity of your land and elderly neighbours, restrict access onto your property; maintain your boundary fences, hedges and walls, install a monitored intruder alarm to your home and buildings that are vulnerable, illuminate areas which are overlooked from your home, and be careful to lock your shopping/gifts in the boot of your car – remember the elves (oops) the thieves are about.”
Sgt Wallace is also encouraging to check on older persons and neighbours over the Christmas and New Year holiday periods.
“Remember older people love to receive a visit, or telephone call - it can be that simple.” For more see www.garda.ie
