Within a matter of hours of being set up, almost £3,000 has been collected in online fundraising Justgiving.com pages in both Buncrana and Derry.

Buncrana woman Michelle Black also set up a number of other initiatives. Tonight (Monday) she plans to take cash or baby item donations in person with other volunteers at The Plaza in Buncrana from 6.30pm.

Michelle has also set up a Buncrana Credit Union account, with the account number 23688 for anyone wishing to make a donation.

Speaking about the fundraising, Michelle said: “Everybody is just stunned by what has happened. This could be anybody’s family.

“I have got four kids of my own, and it’s terrible even when there isn’t children involved and there’s a tragedy such as this, but this has really tugged at the heart strings.

“I just felt if we could help in any way possible. They have so much to think of and the last thing they need to be worrying about is money.”
