Bombed branch is set to re-open

Santander is planning to re-open its branch in the Diamond which has been shut since it was bombed by the Real IRA in May.

The branch has been boarded up since the bomb attack which led to much of the town centre being closed on one of the busiest Saturdays of the year.

Santander has lodged a planning application to erect a new shop front, but access will be from Butcher Street rather than previously in the Diamond.

The application is to remove damaged tiles and render the walls an off-white colour.

The company wishes to retain its existing signage in the Diamond, although access to the public will be closed off.
