Boost as Killea included in new funding scheme

News that the Killea area is now eligible to apply for a key development scheme has been welcomed.

Sinn Féin Councillor for the area Patricia Logue has welcomed the news the Derry City & Strabane District Council Rural Development Strategy has been approved by the government department with responsibility.

The new strategy involves Nixon’s Corner and the Killea area being included in the areas which can avail of the funding. Colr. Logue said: “I was pleased to have been able to get the Killea area included in the rural development strategy which has been approved by Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD).

“It is a four year project and means that the Killea /Nixon’s Corner area can now avail of funding opportunities.

“There are four headings under which funding can be applied for including Rural Business Investment, Basic services, rural village renewal and rural broadband.

“There is also scope for cooperation projects North/South applications - Killea/Nixon’s Corner. It’s important now that we build on this and explore all avenues to get investment into this area.”
