Boy in hospital after hill rescue

AN 11-year-old boy has been taken to hospital with injuries to his leg following a reported accident at Roe Valley Country Park in Derry.

The Northern Ireland Fire Service have confirmed they received a call informing them of the incident off Dogleap Road shortly after 3.20pm yesterday.

Two appliances from Crescent Link and a third from Limavady Fire Station attended the scene and spent around 40 minutes rescuing the boy and bringing him to safety.

A spokeswoman for the Fire Service said: “Firefighters attended a specialist rescue incident involving an 11-year-old boy who had fallen 15ft down the side of a hill.

“Firefighters assisted ambulance personnel to stretcher the casualty to a nearby ambulance.”

A spokesman for the Ambulance Service confirmed that they were tasked to the scene and had helped at the scene.

It is understood the boy is being treated for his injuries at Altnagelvin Hospital.
