SDLP Derry City Councillor John Boyle has welcomed confirmation that the Social Investment Fund (SIF) has agreed, through an official letter of offer to Derry City Council (DCC), that funding is now in place for a children’s play park and multi-use games area (MUGA) pitch in Ballymagroarty.

Colr. Boyle said: “I give a warm welcome to the confirmation from SIF that they are progressing positively with DCC on the development of childrens play facilities throughout the DCC area.

”I am particularly delighted to see that plans for a children’s play park and MUGA pitch will be on track for the Ballymagroarty area in the near future.”

He added: “This has been a long time coming. While it is very disappointing that there were delays in the overall funding process we should take positives from the news that the Ballymagroarty plans are already at an advanced stage with full planning permission granted, supported by the SDLP Environment Minister Mark H. Durkan.

“Adequate play facilities for children have been sadly lacking in this area for many years and I aim to ensure that the proposals for Ballymagroarty receive priority treatment. Capital investment to improve this situation has been sorely needed and this news is recognition of the tireless efforts of the entire Ballymagroarty community.”
