Diggers are expected to move in and begin the multi-million pound transformation of Brandywell Stadium within weeks, the ‘Journal’ can reveal.
Derry City and Strabane District Council, which owns the stadium, says it hopes to be in a position to announce the award of the contract for the Brandywell regeneration project within the next fortnight.
Karen McFarland, Council’s Director of Health and Communities, has revealed that a provisional letter of intent has been issued to a preferred contractor.
She told councillors on Thursday that, following completion of the necessary “standstill” period, and subject to no challenges arising within this timeframe, Council will be in a position to announce details of the award of contract and confirm the project commencement date.
The redevelopment of Brandywell Stadium includes the building of a new stand, new changing rooms and office space, and a new playing surface.
