James, originally from Muff Co. Donegal, went to school in Derry and before opening the Walled City Brewery he honed his brewing skills with Diageo.

The bar and restaurant, which is situated in the old military pay office in Ebrington Square, brews and sells authentic premium quality craft beers on site. Visitors to the brewery will also be able to avail of tours.

“The months of hard work have paid off and we’re delighted to open the doors of the Walled City Brewery to the public. The idea began with a vision to create something different in Derry/Londonderry, something the entire city will be proud of at Ebrington Square. Our beers and paired food will be locally crafted with premium raw ingredients. Most importantly, they will be brimming with flavour,” said James.

Before officially announcing the opening of the brewery, James thanked ILEX, Philip Gilliland, Jim Roddy from CCI and his friends and family for their support .

Philip Flynn, Ilex’s Chair said: “I wish to congratulate James Huey on the opening of this fantastic business. The brewery will attract visitors from near and far to Ebrington to see the brewing process first hand and serve local foods with tasting options to accompany the in-house beers. Transforming this heritage building into an impressive contemporary space has been an exciting project for Ilex, and with the success of Phase 2 site marketing, we look forward to progressing many more business ventures at Ebrington”.
