Ms. Anderson was speaking to the ‘Journal’ yesterday and said she is encouraging everyone in Derry to vote for Britain to remain within Europe when the referendum takes place on June 23.

She also warned that the border between Derry and Donegal would be ‘hardened’ in what she believes is the most intense development on the political landscape here since partition.

She has asked people to consider that any potential exit would impact on every individual living in Derry with specific reference to employment and funding from Europe. She highlighted in particular the investment made along the border areas.

She said: “A snapshot is 22,000 projects and the 78,000 people have progressed into employment. Around 43,000 people took part in reconciliation work. Go to those groups doing sterling work in Derry and Donegal and you can see the implications of a Brexit that would be imposed upon people here.

“We are a net beneficiary of Europe in purely financial terms. Look at the Peace Bridge and the Bloody Sunday museum. There are numerous bold statements built as a result of EU funding. These are all along the border areas,” she added.
