'˜Brutal killing' of fox in Derry estate

A local councillor has described as '˜brutal' fox has been savaged by dogs in a Derry housing estate.

Sinn Féin Councillor Eric McGinley said the incident occurred in the Ballymagroarty area in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Colr. McGinley said: “A number of residents were awoken this morning by the sounds of a fox being savagely killed by dogs in Ballymagroarty.

“Whilst this type of practice does take place - and there is an ongoing debate on the rights and wrongs of this – I don’t believe it is at all appropriate to use hunting dogs in built up residential areas such as Ballymagroarty.”

Colr. McGinley added: “People were subjected to the sights and sounds of a fox being viciously killed by hunting dogs and I would appeal to those who are engaged in this practice not to bring it in to residential areas.”
