Buncrana pier tragedy: Mayor expresses sympathy of Council at meeting
Councillor Elisha McCallion was speaking as the full council reconvened for their monthly meeting at the Guildhall on Monday evening.
She said: “We are here today due to the fact I thought it would be appropriate, given the day that was in it Thursday a week ago, to postpone the Full Council meeting due to the awful tragedy that occurred on March 20 in Buncrana.

The Mayor said she has been in discussions with the family at different times since the tragedy occurred.
She also said the council was aware of the large number of calls “noting the heroism of Davitt Walsh,” and suggested the council could, in time, look at ways of recognising Mr Walsh, who saved baby Rionaghach-Ann that day, with the family to be consulted and kept fully up to date on this.”
