A Buncrana school took a podium place in a prestigious national championship.

Colaiste Chineál Eoghain’s Formula 1 team Realtra Rasaíochta were successful in the F1 in Schools National Championship Final held in Dublin Castle on Friday, May 2.

This was a fantastic achievement for the team, who were competing against 25 others from across the country.

Cáit Ní Cheallaigh, team manager said: “We are delighted with this award, we have worked so hard for this and I’m so glad all the work has payed off”

The winners, Presentation College Carlow, will now go on to represent Ireland in the international final in the Ferrari centre in Abu Dhabi.

“We were so close to going to Abu Dhabi, but we are thrilled, most teams are leaving here with nothing to show for their work. Most of us are first year pupils and we will be back again next year’’ said Orla Mc Cracken, marketing manager for the team.

In addition to racing head-to-head, the competing teams were judged on the quality of engineering, portfolio, resource management, marketing, graphic design, sponsorship activities and on a verbal presentation of their work.

The team thanked their sponsors for their support throughout the competition.
