Burnfoot based businessman Philip O’Doherty who owns 80% of E&I Engineering, one of the few success stories in Inishowen in recent years, has joined the Sunday Times Rich list for the first time.

O’Doherty’s firm makes large industrial electronic switchgear systems, and he is estimated to have a current worth of £38m.

However, the Derry man is quite a way off the richest local,
Paddy McNally.

In fact the south Donegal is so wealthy he came in as Ireland’s 17th richest person, having made his fortune in Formula One advertising and properties in Britain and Switzerland. He is also placed in 209th place in terms of wealth in Britain 
and Ireland.

The 74-year-old former racing driver once dated Sarah Ferguson, the British Royal.

He is estimated to be worth €517,000,000

Gaoth Dobhair singer Enya Ni Bhraonain singer was valued at €102M, having sold 70 million albums worldwide. The valuation placed her 88th in Ireland.

Riverdance founder Moya Doherty and her husband John McColgan were valued at €75M, placing them at 121 in the top 250.

Another south Donegal man Tim Kelly isn’t far behind in 124th place. Based in Harrow, England, where he runs his Kelly Group telecommunications company, he is estimated by the newspaper to be worth €73.

In joint 174th place is Vera McHugh who inherited a fortune from her husband Kevin in 2006. He was the owner of Atlantic Dawn, Ireland’s biggest fishing trawler. The Sunday Times says she’s worth €56M.

Across the border the biggest earner on the list from Derry was actress Roma Downey who, when combined with the wealth her American television producer husband Mark Burnett, is estimated to be worth £295million.

Although the Times has pointed out that her personal fortune is estimated to be in the region of just £10million.

The pair have recently hit the headlines around the world with their co-produced miniseries ‘The Bible’ which broke the ratings records in the USA over the Easter period.

Derry songstress Nadine Coyle also makes it on the UK Young Rich List with a net worth estimated at £6m. The singer has just completed a successful tour with Girls Aloud however the band have since announced their split. Nadine lives in California where she owns a bar in Orange County called Nadine’s Irish Mist. .

The last lucky local to make in on the list is computer consultant Ryan Magee from Altnagelvin who has appeared on the rich list since he won a £6.5m Euromillions windfall in 2008, after buying 11 tickets in Omagh, Strabane, Coleraine and De rry.

The 30-year-old was one of six people in the UK to share the £95 million jackpot, with ten others across 
Europe also winning.
