Funding for the two main roads linking Derry to Belfast and Dublin has been secured, the Journal can reveal.
Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness has told the Journal that funding was today agreed for the A5 and A6.
The move was agreed at a meeting of the Northern Ireland Executive today.
“The A5 and A6 are much more than tar and lines on a road,” said Mr McGuinness. “They will put the North West into the fast lane.
“Today’s news is the boost that we have all been waiting for. We know how vital road structures are. This money is guaranteed, it is gold plated.
“Today is a good news day for Derry.”
