Leading Derry business man, Michael Faulkner, will launch his new business at a lucrative digital media event in the USA next week.

Seedups is an online service which acts as a “matching platform” for new online businesses to attract potential investors. Seedups was launched by Mr. Faulkner in Ireland last month and already boasts over 300 new start up businesses and 120 investors amongst its clientele.

Mr. Faulkner, 38, will travel to Austin, Texas with his Technical Operator Gavin Gallagher and Online Community Manager Connor Doherty next Wednesday.

“Seedups has been selected to travel as part of an Invest NI delegation to South by Southwest in Texas next week,” explained Mr. Faulkner. “We’ve already launched the business in Ireland but we see this as a fantastic opportunity to expand and engage with the US market.”

He added: “Seedups has been going extremely well over the last few months. Our clients were not able to avail of such a service a few months ago so we have identified a real gap in the market. Because of the current state of the economy start up businesses can no longer seek investment by traditional means and trying to get a loan from the banks can be difficult. At Seedups we act as a matching platform and bring the new start up businesses together with potential investors.”

Over the last two years Mr. Faulkner has created 14 local jobs through his Euroxchanger business and Seedups has employed a further three local people since it was founded by Mr. Faulkner last year.”

Next week’s event is a showcase opportunity for companies and products in the digital technology sector. In 2010 14,000 participants reached nearly 40,000 people in an event worth $99 million to the local economy.

“The South by Southwest event is one of the biggest conferences of its kind. Well known social network site Twitter launched at the same event four years ago and I don’t need to explain to anyone how successful they’ve been. Facebook and all of the other big online names are at the event too so hopefully we get some great exposure out of it.”
