Derry can now promise tourists a “world class visitor experience”, the north’s tourism minister has said.

Arlene Foster says the city has a “vital part to play in showing the world the unique and exciting tourist experience we have to offer.”

The DUP minister was speaking at an event held in Stormont to update a range of organisations on the progress being made ahead of Derry’s year as City of Culture 2013 and events planned for later this year.

“As part of the ni2012 programme of events the city will host the Peace One Day Concert in June and the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race in July,” she says..

Ms Foster says these events and recent investment means tourism “here is ready to take advantage of the worldwide interest that will be generated during 2012.”

“With the Walled City designated as one of Northern Ireland’s Signature Projects and completed capital projects such as the refurbishment of the Tower Museum, the construction of the Peace Bridge and the new Ebrington site all contributing to the transformation of this city, Londonderry can now promise a world-class visitor experience,” she says.
