A number of local retailers are in the running for top industry awards.

The businesses are making plans to attend the National Q Mark Awards which take place on Friday, September 25.

The National Q Mark Awards are held annually by the proud Guardians of The Q Mark – Excellence Ireland Quality Association (EIQA).

‘Ireland’s Best Distribution Centre for Hygiene and Food Safety’ is the title that Musgrave Marketplace, Pennyburn, Derry, could be laying claim to after beating off stiff competition from hundreds of excellent Irish businesses in their bid to make the elite list of finalists.

Moran’s SuperValu in Co. Derry is in the running for the award for ‘Ireland’s Best Supermarket and Forecourt for Hygiene and Food Safety’ while both Moran’s Centra, Strand Road, and Centra Derry, at Buncrana Road, hope to secure the title of ‘Ireland’s Best Convenience Store for Hygiene and Food Safety’.

The official announcement of the select list of finalists came from Ms. Irene Collins, EIQA’s Managing Director.

She said that to be nominated for such an award served as recognition that the services provided by a company far surpass current legislative requirements; that the team involved conduct their affairs with the customers’ best interests in mind, and, most importantly, that the business itself is operating at the highest standard of performance in the country.

She added: “Awards schemes are about celebrating achievement and encouraging a sense of further improvement for all nominees. The Q Mark is recognised as a beacon of excellence, a standard which distribution centres are proud to display and their customers are happy to trust.

“The Q Mark has a staggering 87% recognition status amongst Irish consumers; it is a testament to this country’s appreciation for quality and excellence.”
